Caribbean Labour Solidarity Meeting on Haiti

Following the success of the Haitian people winning their freedom from French enslavement in the 1791 revolution, the citizens and nation have achieved considerable success in a number of areas. However, they have also been beset by a series of disasters, both human‐made and natural. The latest occurred on the 12 January 2010 when a magnitude 7 earthquake struck near the capital Port-au-Prince. This killed 220,000 people with some 3.5m seriously affected and resulted in over 190,000 homes and businesses being destroyed.

The resilience of the Haitian people is renowned and Caribbean Labour Solidarity is privileged to welcome Mario Grouse, Executive Committee member of the Haiti Support Group, to address the 2nd February 2014 meeting at 12 p.m. on recent developments in Haiti. CLS member Frank Murray will also provide an update on the situation in Guyana following his recent visit there.

Venue: Islington Pensioners’ Forum, 1A Providence Court, Providence Place, Islington, London N1 0RN

CLS open meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month, from 12 noon to 2pm. Everyone welcome. For more information contact CLS’s President, Luke Daniels on 07440 790451 or at [email protected]
