Discussion on Michel-Rolph Trouillot: University College of London. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 – 5:30pm

This panel reflects on the life and work of Haitian scholar Michel-Rolph Trouillot who died on 5th July 2012. The author of pioneering studies on Haiti and the Caribbean, Trouillot’s work has made a lasting contribution to the fields of anthropology, history and politics.

In 2011, Michel-Rolph Trouillot was awarded the Frantz Fanon Lifetime Achievement Award by the Caribbean Philosophical Association in recognition of his contribution to Caribbean thought. He published many signifiant works including the first book-length scholarly monograph to be written in creole – Ti dife boule sou Istwa Ayiti on the origins of the Haitian slave revolution (1977); Peasants and Capital: Dominica in the World Economy (1988); Haiti: State Against Nation: The Origins and Legacy of Duvalierism (1990); Silencing the Past: Power and the Production of History (1995); and Global Transformations: Anthropology and the Modern World (2003).
