About the Haiti Support Group
Launched in June 1992, for over three decades we have worked in solidarity with the Haitian poor majority, reflecting and amplifying the views of grassroots, popular, participatory groups.
In our commitment to empowering Haiti’s poor majority, we collaborate with civil society organisations across the country, including trade unions, women’s organisations, peasant groups, neighbourhood associations and others. We believe they are the best placed to represent and defend the vast majority of the Haitian people’s desire for real democracy, justice and equitable development in their country.
The Haiti Support Group is a civil society organisation that collaborates with progressive, participatory groups in Haiti working to:
- improve the standard of living of the poor majority
- build genuine democracy and means of participation
- ensure respect for all human rights
We do our best to amplify the voices of Haitian civil society organisations genuinely committed to empowering the poor majority, whether they are trade unions, women’s organisations, peasant groups, neighbourhood associations or others.
Our team of Haiti watchers includes grassroots activists and campaigners, members of the Haitian Diaspora, legal experts, journalists, academics and development specialists.
