Pressure on the UN Mounts over Haiti Cholera Crisis
On 17 August 2016 journalist Jonathan Katz broke the story “U.N. Admits Role in Cholera Epidemic in Haiti”. The article includes an admission of guilt by the deputy spokesman for the secretary general, Farhan Haq, that “over the past year, the U.N. has become convinced that it needs to do much more regarding its own involvement in the initial outbreak and the suffering of those affected by cholera”.
This statement is a huge step forward for all Haitian grassroots movements and civil society organisations working tirelessly to hold the United Nations to account over its involvement in the deaths of tens of thousands of Haitians.
