For immediate release.

Today’s announcement regarding Britain’s possible recognition of the State of Palestine is a welcome step towards self-determination. Notwithstanding, at the Haiti Support Group we call upon the UK government to enact their promise immediately, unconditionally and without delay, ensuring that this is not predicated on the actions of Israel.

Moreover, we call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza with full re-opening of borders to allow unfettered access to aid at a time when this man-made tragedy is reaching unfathomable gravity.

As the architect of the Balfour Declaration, Britain bears an immense responsibility for the abject suffering of the Palestinian people that started with the Nakba in 1948. The Haiti Support Group is united in our belief that this injustice – which is now reaching a critical stage in Gaza and, increasingly, in the West Bank – must be stopped.

This unimaginable crisis will, however, persist if Israel continues, unpunished, to violate international law and to repeatedly commit crimes of war, including its military occupation of Palestine and an absence of arm embargoes.

The Haiti Support Group believes that the rights to a life of economic and personal freedom and democracy are international. There cannot be peace anywhere unless there is peace everywhere.

Tout moun se moun.

In Solidarity,

The Haiti Support Group
