Dear Haiti Watchers,

As we see in the New Year together, it is important to remember that January 1st marks an important time for Haiti. In 1804, Haitians fought hard to become the world’s first free Black republic, liberating themselves from their French colonial oppressors and becoming the first country to permanently abolish slavery.

221 years later and Haitian independence is still under attack. As committed Haiti Watchers, we celebrate this New Year even more determined with a renewed commitment to supporting and amplifying the voices of Haitian civil society.

Over this coming year, the Haiti Support Group will continue to push for a holistic understanding of Haitians’ lived realities and the challenges they face. Any amount you can offer, no matter how small, will help to ensure that we can continue to advocate on behalf of, and work together with, our Haitian brothers and sisters.

In solidarity,

Aïda Roumer
Chair of the Haiti Support Group
